Though Musashi lived at the end of Japan’s period of civil war, he can still boast to have taken part in several battles. Ironically, this part of Musashi’s life has thus far remained very much shrouded in mystery. Compounded by various fictional accounts, this has led to the most so that even today, the accounts given by the Japanese and the Western Wikipedia pages concerning the side on which Musashi fought in the great battles for pacification are even now diametrically opposed.
The following pages, then, seek to shed some light on Musashi’s whereabouts during the great battles that raged during his lifetime, though ultimately not all of the mysteries surrounding his activities on the field of battle can be resolved.
